Joel C. Romines Founder and Managing Principal
Joel founded Knightsbridge in London in 1983 to offer European institutional investors the
opportunity to invest in the best early stage US venture capital partnerships. Over the past
twenty-seven years he has made decisions to invest in over 130 venture partnerships on behalf
of Knightsbridge.
Joel has successfully introduced several innovations to the funds of funds business, including
among the first early stage venture strategies, the first multiple manager post-venture-based
distribution system and a contra-cyclical venture exposure management strategy. Shortly, a
public equity-based proxy for venture capital will be introduced. Knightsbridge was also an
early adopter of an investor preferred return fee structure. Joel is a former consultant to
Horsley Bridge Associates, an institutional investor in US venture capital partnerships. From
1980 to 1982, he served as vice president and director of a start-up, venture capital-backed
company. He was employed in the UK by Orion Bank Limited from 1972 to 1980, where he was an
executive director. While at Citibank N.A. from 1968 to 1972, Joel was a lending officer to US
and global companies. Joel has a BS in economics from Drury College.
