Advisory Councils
Knightsbridge is honored to benefit from the advice and insights of the
members of its investment vehicle advisory councils. Five experienced
individuals with a range of professional and academic backgrounds and
valuable perspectives on the venture capital industry currently sit on
the seven advisory bodies for KIH I though KVC VII. They provide valued
advice on general business and other issues affecting the partnerships, while
Knightsbridge retains decision-making authority on all partnership matters.
The members of the advisory councils are:
Peter Crisp
Peter is formerly a vice chairman of Rockefeller Financial Services, Inc. He served as
an associate of the Rockefeller Family for 45 years, and was a founding and managing
partner of Venrock Associates, a limited partnership funded by members of the Rockefeller
family and related institutions that invest in technology-based venture capital. He
served as President of Venrock from May 1980 through March 1997, and as Chairman from
June 1995 through September 1997. Peter is a board member of: Memorial Sloan-Kettering
Cancer Center, Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases, Sloan-Kettering
Institute for Cancer Research, North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, American
Superconductor Corporation as well as several other private companies. Peter has
served as an advisory council member of Knightsbridge vehicles since 1998 and is a
member of the advisory councils of KIH IV, KIH V, KVC VI, and KVC VII.
Phillip McCrury
Phil is a partner of the law firm Shannon, Gracey, Ratliff & Miller, L.L.P., Fort
Worth, Texas. From 1985 to 1988, he was a partner at Kutak Rock & Campbell. From
1978 to 1985, he was Tax Counsel to Phillips Petroleum Company and before
that, General Counsel of Susser Petroleum Group. Prior to this, he was a partner
of Auforth, Bonniwell, Nebrat & Keas. His degrees are: LL.M. in taxation, Southern
Methodist University School of Law; J.D., University of Texas School of
Law; B.A., University of Texas. Phil has served as a member of the boards of
directors and advisory councils of Knightsbridge vehicles since 1988 and is
currently a director of KIH I, KIH II and KIH III and a member of the advisory
councils of KIH IV, KIH V, KVC VI, and KVC VII. He is also a member of the
board of managers of Knightsbridge.
Anthony Sun
Tony is former Managing General Partner of Venrock. He joined Venrock in 1979
and, in his two decades with the firm, invested in and advised 55 companies. During
his tenure, he witnessed the evolution of information technology from the early
days of semiconductor manufacturing, to the internet boom and the recent innovations
in telecommunications. Before joining Venrock, he gained operational experience
with Caere Corporation, Hewlett-Packard and TRW, Inc. He has bachelor's and master's
degrees in electrical engineering from MIT and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business
School. He is active in educational and international communities and serves as
a trustee of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, serving on the visiting
committees for the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
and the Department of Material Science. He is also a member of the International
Resource Panel for the Government of Singapore and on the venture advisory
board of the US Navy. Tony joined the Knightsbridge Advisory Council in 2010
and currently serves as a member of the advisory councils of KIH IV, KIH V, KVC VI, and KVC VII.
Jonathan Sweemer
Jon founded and currently manages SPS Capital LLC, a firm established to manage
globally diversified investment portfolios with an emphasis on risk management. From
1995 to 2000, Jon was a founding member of Nassau Capital LLC, a firm devoted
exclusively to the management of Princeton University's private assets. From 1992
to 1995, Jon served as Vice President of the Princeton University Investment
Company, responsible for managing outside advisers in all asset categories, and
from 1989 to 1992, Jon was an investment officer for the endowment and the retirement
plans at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. At both MIT and Princeton, he led
quantitative asset allocation studies. Jon has a B.S. in physics from Miami
University and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago with a specialization in
finance. He has served as a captain in the US Air Force, flying fighter aircraft
in Europe, Asia, and the US. Jon has served as a member of the boards of directors
or advisory councils of Knightsbridge vehicles since 2002 and is currently a
director of KIH I, KIH II, and KIH III and a member of the advisory councils of
KIH IV, KIH V, KVC VI, and KVC VII. Beginning in August of 2006, Jon served a
one-year term as a member of Knightsbridge's investment committee, sharing
responsibility for making investment decisions. In August 2007, he returned to
his role as a member of the vehicle boards and advisory councils and assumed
the new role of Chairman.
Mark Wellman
Mark is a director of RWS Energy Services. He served as Chief Financial Officer of
Nyack College in Nyack, New York from 1994 to 1997. From 1990, he has served as a
director of Energy Enterprise Overseas Publishing Inc. He was President of Energy
Ventures, Inc. from 1986 to 1990 and of Gulf Applied Technologies, Inc. from 1984
to 1990. He was a first vice president at Shearson Lehman Brothers from 1982 to
1983. From 1978 to 1981, he was Chief Financial Officer, Atlas Corporation
and Treasurer of American Independent Oil Co. from 1971 to 1978. From 1967 to
1971, he was employed by Arabian American Oil Co. as a financial analyst. Mark
has a B.A. from Yale University and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School. He has
served as a member of the boards of directors or advisory councils of Knightsbridge
vehicles since 1988 and is currently a director of KIH I, II, and III and a member
of the advisory councils of KIH IV, KIH V, KVC VI, and KVC VII.
